A Work iN progress…

The title is misleading but let me take you on a journey.

Many companies and individuals believe that they are too small to be the victim of a cyber crime. The best answer to whether or not you need to worry about cyber crimes is actually a question:

How do I know that I haven’t been a victim of a cyber crime yet…?

Cyber criminals are getting more technical and even more discrete with their operations which spells trouble for those who are complacent with their status of thinking they are safe. Any step in the direction of proper cyber security measures could be the difference between continuing business as usual and closing down the business due to hacker intervention.

Lets get back to the journey we were on earlier. Let us say that your corporation/business is a small time doctors office that has been continuing its standard practices for the past 10 years without fail. You just updated you messaging services to patients and now can allow them to view their medical data online. All is good until one day you realize that majority of your patient files are gone or inaccessible. How did this happen? What went wrong? It could honestly be a number of things. A virus, a Trojan horse, a phishing scam gone right in the favor of the hacker, or even a child just trying to show off his hacking skills with no true regard for what has been done. All attempts to mitigate this are good attempts, and Bruce explores those attempts for you.
